One of the main goals of a course like Liberal Arts Mathematics is to help students become logically and quantitatively educated so that they can be well-informed, contributing members of the society. To that end, this chapter is particularly important as we will explore how mathematics is used in politics, especially in two crucial aspects—election and representation. We will investigate some fundamental facets of democracy as well as our pursuit of fairness and justice.
