Definition: Rational

A real number x is called a rational number if x=mn for some m,nZ,n0.

Example 8.1.1:

Write 2.13 as a fraction.

Solution

Let x=2.13. Then 100x=213.13. Therefore 99x=211. which implies x=2119.
