- This section is an introduction to the chapter and it provides motivation through reflecting on a set of statistical claims.
- 6.2: Categorizing data
- This section clarifies the types of data we can collect. Once we have gathered data, we might wish to classify it. Roughly speaking, data can be classified as categorical data or quantitative data.
- 6.3: Measures of Central Tendency
- This section provides tools to characterize the center of a data set. We typically rely on using the average or mean, however, this is not always the best measurement to describe the center of the data set. In this section, we will also explore the median and the mode as alternatives to describe the center of the data.
- 6.4: Measures of Variation
- This section focuses on describing the variation of the data. In addition to the mean and median, which are measures of the "typical" or "middle" value, we also need a measure of how "spread out" or varied each data set is. There are several ways to measure this "spread" of the data.

- This practice problems provide an opportunity to understand the Chapter 6 concepts.
