    Numbers are the currency of everyday decisions — paychecks, receipts, dosages, distances, news headlines. This module builds the foundational skills needed to work with numbers confidently: understanding scale, making comparisons, converting between units, and working with percentages and averages.

    These are not abstract skills. Every topic here shows up in technical, healthcare, business, and trades contexts. The goal is to build fluency with the numbers you encounter before you need them.

    By the end of this module, you will be able to:

    • Read, write, and compare very large and very small numbers using scientific notation
    • Set up and solve proportions to find unknown quantities
    • Convert measurements within and between unit systems (U.S. customary and metric)
    • Calculate and interpret percentages, including percent increase and decrease
    • Compute weighted averages and explain why simple averaging can be misleading
    • Apply these skills to real-world contexts including health, finance, and workplace scenarios
