2: Cartesian Coordinate System
( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\)
Mathematical figures in algebra are drawn in a system or plane called the rectangular coordinate system. Figures are particularly important for giving a visual representation of relationships between two variables.
- 2.1: Definition and Label Quadrants
- The two perpendicular number lines intersect at the point (0,0) and is called the origin.
- 2.2: Ordered Pairs
- Ordered pairs are pairs of numbers used to locate a point in the rectangular coordinate plane and written in the form (x,y) , where x is the x-coordinate and y is the y-coordinate.
- 2.3: The Distance Formula
- The previous section taught how to plot points in the rectangular coordinate plane. This section teaches how to find the distance between any two points in the plane.
- 2.4: Applied Examples
- In this section, apply the distance formula to find the lengths of line segments.
