In this Chapter, we study applications of linear second order equations.
- 6.1: Spring Problems I
- Throughout the this section we’ll consider spring–mass systems without damping. We’ll consider systems with damping in the next section. We first consider the case where the motion is also free.
- 6.2: Spring Problems II
- In this section we consider the motion of an object in a spring–mass system with damping.
- 6.3: The RLC Circuit
- In this section we consider the RLC circuit, which is an electrical analog of a spring-mass system with damping.
- 6.4: Motion Under a Central Force
- This section is about motion of an object under a central force, which is particularly relevant in the space age, since, for example, a satellite moving in orbit subject only to Earth's gravity is experiencing motion under a central force.
