    In this chapter, we study functions whose algebraic definitions consist of polynomial expressions. Much of this will feel familiar if you've come through Chapters 2 and 3, since working with polynomial functions necessarily involves a lot of simplifying of polynomial expressions and solving of polynomial equations! We'll build up through the degrees, starting with linear functions (officially), proceeding to quadratic functions, and then generalizing to higher-degree polynomials. There's a detour through polynomial long division, a big ol' roundup of visualization and graphing information, and a return to inequalities at the end. In calculus, polynomials are hugely important and everybody's favorite because it's very easy to take their derivatives, and a whole entire section of a Calc I class is usually devoted to finding their maximum and minimum values, so hopefully this chapter will make you extremely comfortable with functions of this type.
