- To add and subtract polynomials, combine like terms. Like terms have the same variables with the same exponents. The coefficients of the terms may be different. Be careful when subtracting, to distribute the subtraction (think of it as an addition of (−1) times the polynomial).
- 8.2: Polynomial Multiplication
- To multiply two monomials, multiply the terms together by adding the exponents and multiplying the numeric coefficients. To multiply a polynomial by a monomial, multiply all terms of the polynomial by the monomial. To multiply two binomials, use the FOIL technique to multiply: first terms, outer terms, inner terms and the last terms. To multiply two polynomials, use the distributive property to multiply every term in the first polynomial by every term in the second polynomial.
- 8.3: Factoring and Finding Polynomial Solutions (Zeroes)
- There are several ways to find solutions of polynomials which are trinomials of the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0. These are also called the real zeroes of polynomials. These solutions are Trial and Check Factoring Method, Factor by Grouping Factoring Method, and The Quadratic Formula.
